The Guard Change, or Cambio de Guardia in Spanish, takes place every other day in the external courtyard of the La Moneda Palace, at the Plaza de la Ciudadanía.

The presidential Guard Change is a free event and a Chilean tradition that has been held since 1851. The ceremony was suspended during the protests in Chile and the pandemic but resumed in 2022.

The Guard Change features a parade of the Carabineros de Chile, accompanied by their orchestra, which sometimes surprises Brazilian tourists by playing "Aquarela do Brasil."
